Online Quality Rubric

Learning Technologies and COD Faculty are currently working to establish an online quality rubric. We are in the final stages of developing a comprehensive rubric, which is undergoing assessment by a dedicated group of experienced faculty members and instructional designers.  This rubric will help to guide faculty in the development and facilitation of their online courses to ensure they meet federal regulations and adhere to research-based best practices.

In addition to the comprehensive rubric, we are also developing a shorter checklist version. This checklist is designed to serve as a quick-reference guide for faculty who are in the initial stages of course development or who seek a streamlined assessment tool. Both versions of the rubric—comprehensive and checklist—are intended to complement each other, offering flexibility depending on the faculty’s needs and familiarity with online course development.

As these resources are created and rolled out, we’ll be adding them to this page.

The process of creating this rubric has been informed by various sources, including the OSCQR rubric developed by SUNY, which provides a robust framework for evaluating online course design and delivery. Building upon this foundation, we have iteratively refined our rubric through multiple drafts and consultations with stakeholders.

As we move forward, we will continue to utilize feedback and evolving standards to keep the rubric relevant and functional for the needs of faculty at the College of DuPage. Learning Technologies is committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement in online teaching and learning, and this rubric represents a significant step towards achieving that goal.

Stay tuned for updates as we prepare to launch this valuable resource to support faculty in creating engaging and effective online learning experiences for their students.
